This piece is a section of a larger piece that has been "on the easle" for quite a while. If you were to take this piece and place Ether to the left of it you would get a basic idea of the composition of the original painting. Coriantumr, in the foreground, is looking across the ghastly scene caused by his own pride. Across the field of destruction stands Ether - a witness that all the Lord had promised had come to pass. I wanted Coriantumr's last thoughts before he collapsed to be regret that his actions had caused the ultimate downfall of a once great people. A friend of mine from our time in Oregon posed for Coriantumr (his son posed for Ether) and I know they've been anxious for the completion of the painting. I was delighted that, even though the original painting isn't done, that I could paint their poses for the card game. In the original painting Coriantumr is looking across a field of corpses but to save time for this version I added smoke. |
